In September 2017, I engaged http://DigitalWebSolutions.in based in India, to redesign my website Home page. I dealt with their subsidiary company http://SMEgoweb.com.au in Melbourne. The promise made to me, if not completely satisfied with their work, they would refund my money.
‘Sir, We are in this industry for more than 10 years now and have designed more than 2000 website, I am sure that you will like the design. However if you still don’t find your desired design we can refund the amount.
But am sure that will not be the case.’
Regrettably, their work did not meet my requirements and I requested a refund. Predictably, this was refused, citing that they had already spent the deposit working on the mockups, which left me out of pocket for a considerable amount. Since SMEgoweb are not a registered company with ASIC, I was not able to mount a VCAT claim.
Corresponding with SMEgoweb, I was told by the head of project management that he would consult with the India office for a refund. I did receive a call from their Sydney office on this matter with a promise to look into this, but to date, I have not heard anything further from them.
I want to warn fellow Australian authors to be wary when considering engaging any of these companies!
UPDATE: 18 December 2017
After a 20-day campaign to secure a refund for services, prompted by daily negative Tweets and Facebook notices, Digital Web Solutions have provided an agreed-to refund. It pays to stand up for your rights!
